Symphony for Schools
Sponsored by Duke Energy
The Ocala Symphony Orchestra's Symphony for Schools program is designed to be engaging, exciting, and fun! OSO musicians visit Marion County elementary schools and provide students with a unique, hands-on music lesson.
The intent of this program is to reach public, private, and homeschooled students and underserved low-wealth schools to support and enhance each school's existing arts and music curriculum. Each program is tailored to the needs of the individual schools so that the experience is relevant to the school program and the students' education, and the performers strive to bring the lessons that the students learned in music class to life. Students learn the names and characteristics of the instruments, the sounds they produce, and which instruments are similar and how they are different. Students also learn how music is used as a language and a means of expression and they get to experience the instruments, and the music they produce, with all of their senses.
The OSO is committed to providing a range of musical and cultural opportunities for the youth of Marion County. If you're interested in learning more about the program, contact Pamela Calero, Executive Director, at or 352-351-1606.
